The Fort McMurray Public Transit System provides efficient bus service on a fixed route, fixed schedule basis. Offering eight regular routes and service seven days a week, it carries 900,000 riders annually and links all of Fort McMurray’s subdivisions through direct or feeder connections. The service is reduced on weekends and not available on some statutory holidays. It is free for seniors and children under five years of age.
Seniors and individuals with disabilities can access THE BUS, one of four handi-buses provided by Fleet and Transit. There is a service fee and it is requested that bookings be made one day in advance. New passengers may call 743-7909 to register.
The Fort McMurray Regional Airport, an all-weather facility, services over 42,000 flights annually and sees more than 200,000 passengers walk through its gates. Daily scheduled flights and charter carriers serving the airport include Air Canada Jazz, Air Mikisew, Corporate Express, McMurray Aviation, and West Jet Airlines. The airport also provides air space for Highland Helicopters, Canadian Helicopters, Phoenix Heli-Flight, Delta Helicopters, Wood Buffalo Helicopters and local search and rescue.
For those looking to “catch the big one” with fly-in fishing adventures, the Snye, a body of water east of the Lower Townsite, has been used as a landing and takeoff area for float planes since 1924 when a Vickers Vedette flown by the Royal Canadian Air Force touched down.
