Candle Safety
Due to the great number of people using candles for everything from entertaining to relaxing, candle safety has become a necessity.
Some tips when using your candles:
- NEVER LEAVE A CANDLE UNATTENDED.
- Keep candles at least three feet away from any combustible materials.
- We discourage the use of candles in a bedroom. A candle left in a bedroom starts almost half of all home fires.
- Keep candles away from flammable liquids.
- Do not place any candles near windows or doors. A draft may bring combustibles in contact with the flame.
- Place candleholders on an uncluttered and sturdy surface – ensure that the candle is away from any edges so they cannot be knocked over by a child or a pet.
- Extinguish candles with a long handled candlesnuffer or a soft direct breath. Also, extinguish the candle when it's burnt down to within two inches of its holder.
- Do not allow children to play with candles or the dripping/dripped wax. A child should never be left unattended in a room while a candle is burning.
- Store all candles, lighters and matches up high and out of reach of a child.
- During the Christmas season, keep candles away from natural and artificial Christmas trees and all holiday decorations.
- In the event of a power outage, when possible, use flashlights or battery powered lamps to see in the dark. A lit candle should never be carried.
