The Assessment & Taxation department is responsible for annually reassessing all property within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo for taxation purposes.

Assessment Branch
The Assessment Branch is responsible for the annual market revaluation of all properties within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. Assessments are prepared for Residential, Multi-Residential, Commercial and Industrial (oilsands plants and gas plants) in both the urban and rural service areas of the Municipality. Yearly, in March, the Assessment Branch mails Assessment Notices to all property owners. The Assessment Branch is also responsible for assigning school support (public, separate or undeclared) to all properties.
Taxation Branch
The Taxation Branch is responsible for the annual mailing and collection of property taxes, Business Revitalization Zone taxes, and the issuance of Taxi Licenses, and Chauffeurs permits. The Taxation Branch also collects property taxes on behalf of Alberta Education and for two seniors’ homes, Rotary House and the Ayabaskaw Home.
School Support Declaration
The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is required by legislation to bill and collect taxes on behalf of the Provincial Government for the Alberta School Foundation Fund and the
Fort McMurray R.C.S.S.D. #32. While the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo bills and collects school taxes, the municipality has no jurisdiction or control over school board budgets or operations.
School support on a property is shown as "undeclared" unless a declaration of school support is filed by each individual owner. If you wish to change your school support designation, please complete one of the options below:
2009 Tax Rate Bylaw
The 2009 Tax Rate Bylaw provides municipal taxation rates, school tax rates and seniors homes tax rates for all property tax classes within the both the Urban Service Area and Rural Service Area of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.

TIPP is a monthly tax installment payment plan that allows taxpayers to make consecutive monthly tax payments, rather than a single annual payment.
